Make Tax Digital Deadline

With the hard deadline for Making Tax Digital approaching in April of 2020, time is running out for companies to have a solution for the digital journey. If businesses do not yet have a solution in place, they can apply for a digital journey extension from HMRC. Avalara and Unit4 have partnered to integrate Unit4 Financials and Avalara’s VAT Reporting to provide a solution to automate all forms of VAT compliance in the UK, Europe and over 50 countries around the world. Working with Millennium Consulting, Avalara have provided a webinar demonstrating the upcoming MTD launch, the integration between the two solutions and how to apply for an extension to HMRC in the videos below.

Apply for UK MTD VAT digital links extension from HMRC

On 1 April 2020, the second phase of UK Making Tax Digital (‘MTD’) for VAT programme will be implemented. This requires stringent implementation of the ‘digital journey’ with no manual intervention when preparing VAT returns, plus the start of fines for failure to comply with any part of the MTD requirements.

HMRC has now offered an option to apply for an extension to this April deadline if it can be shown there is no reasonable fix available by 1 April to legacy IT issues to operate a complete ‘digital journey’. To be granted an extension, businesses applying must include a comprehensive plan to resolve any break in the digital journey.
